Finally baptized

I think the title says it all. Kathleen was finally baptized yesterday, and I think the day went rather well.

It all started on Saturday with the short baptism class. Father explained the basis, the process, and the symbolism behind the ceremony. It was a little difficult to pay attention at first because of the snoring in the background. Father has a dog, a cocker spaniel by the looks of it. He was one incredibly laidback dog. He sprawled out on Father's desk, sleeping, while we sat around the table. It was all I could do not to giggle at times. Even so, I think I did quite well taking in Father's message. Actually, for a person with ADHD, I did spectacularly well.

Our second distraction during the instruction was Kathleen. Now that she's crawling, she's not happy keeping still. She made it about halfway through before she made it clear she wanted out of the carrier. After another ten minutes in my lap, I was forced to put her down. She spent the remainder of the time crawling under the table and chairs. Thank goodness we were the only family there.

The baptism itself went smoothly. We were there with one other family. I was happy at how well Kathleen behaved. We had one incident where she indicated badly she wanted down, but we got through it. Beyond that, she did what she usually does in church: she provides running commentary the moment father opens his mouth (hence the reason we generally sit in the nursery these days). As this was her day, every beamed at her indulgently. I feel certain if the saints and angels that were called upon were watching her, they were laughing. I was.

The picnic we held afterwards was a simple affair with only close family around. We had a wonderful time. Good food and conversation. Even the weather, which had been forecasted as rainy and stormy, cooperated with sun, clouds, and pleasant temperatures. The girl of honor fell asleep in her highchair after a few hours. It was a busy day for a little person. Still, she didn't nap long.

All in all, it was a good weekend. The baby girl is now baptized. We couldn't be more proud of her.
