It looks like four more teeth are on the verge of coming in, all on the top. You can see the swellings when Kathleen allows you a rare glimpse into her mouth. The last time the swellings appeared, it took about a month for the first tooth to finally poke through. We can’t tell if the bottom teeth are making progress: she won’t let us look.
I don’t dare poke my finger in her mouth to check for teeth. The last time I did – I was trying to sweep some chalk out of her mouth – she clamped down with all her might and would not let go. I had visions of my hamsters again – specifically Colby who would clamp down so ferociously, you almost had to shake him off. Honestly, if I had let her go, I’m not sure Kathleen wouldn’t have remained attached. I can see her now hanging on to my finger by her teeth like a rabid hamster. (All right, Colby wasn’t rabid, but he was a vicious beggar.)
Kathleen is finally letting me feed her again. I thought it was a rare fluke, but I’m able to put a spoon or a bite of food into her mouth without the clamping shut of the jaws and the pursing of the lips. Kathleen has taken great joy in trying to feed us as well. Once she has several bites filling her empty stomach, she’ll put a choice morsel of food into the mouth of whoever is feeding her. It’s cute. I’ll need to be careful when there’s meat on her tray, though. I have no desire to rescind my vegetarian ways even to succumb to the cuteness that is our daughter. Sadie has no complaints, however. Now that Kathleen has also begun feeding her, Sadie’s one happy, little pup.
Baby girl is doing incredibly well with table food now. I'm not sure what happened - it was like a switch turning on - but right around her birthday, she started eating her food rather than picking at it. I suspect it might have something to do with the approaching developmental spurt (55 weeks past due date). She needs fuel to grow and develop. I think once she hits the spurt itself her eating will slow down. We'll find out soon. Until then, I'm enjoying it while it lasts.
