Her second stunning performance was to start dancing to a random VW Beetle commercial playing on TV. She was bouncing, squatting, stamping her feet, doing the twist, and I would swear it was in time with the music (which, incidentally, was The Clapping Song by Shirley Ellis, 1965). I managed to catch a few minutes on video. I'd have posted it here, but it takes entirely too long to download. Let's just say it was one of those things to which the rest of the world would say, "Yeah, that's cute," but which leaves her parents gasping for breath as they laugh their way through it for the 116th time.
I don't know how many people warned us that we'd be in trouble once she started walking, implying that our easy life would become infinitely harder as we worked to keep our wandering ward in check. I'm not finding that to be the case. Yes, I agree that she constantly gets into things she shouldn't, but she was doing that while she was crawling. The only difference is that now she can get into those things faster. We may be marginally busier, but the difference is negligible.
Her next pediatrician appointment is next week. I'm curious to see how much she's grown. She was 30 inches and 20 pounds on her first birthday. I doubt she's lengthened much since then - her pants still fit about the same - but I'm sure she's heavier. I popped her on the bathroom scale this weekend. Keeping in mind that she was fully clothed and holding a sippy partially full of milk, she weighed 22 pounds. Generously assuming that the accessories came to half a pound, that would bring her to around 21-1/2 pounds. That's it? I'm positive she weighs much more than that as I'm toting from my car, cutting through the Capitol Building, up to my office, and down to daycare every morning. She must be 40 pounds minimum.

What a big girl!!
Joseph started to take his first real steps last night and it was a whole range of emotions for me ;)
Loved hearing that she is about as busy are before while she was crawling, that gives me hope!!!
Walking is fun! I love watching her toddle through the house. I am forever amazed that we have the opportunity to experience all of this. Maybe that's why having a toddler doesn't seem any more challenging than having a crawler. Of course, I really don't see her getting into anything more than she did while crawling.
Um...I don't think you can *generally* cut through the U.S. Capitol en route to elsewhere...but just in case that is in fact that Capitol Building you're talking about, how did I not know you're in DC, and would you like to grab lunch at some point?
I'm sorry, I should have specified! It's the state capitol in PA. I work in the Capitol Complex in Harrisburg. I park just in front of one of the connected buildings (about eight of the buildings are connected by hallways and tunnels) and trek through the Capitol building to get to and from my car in less than ideal weather.
We're not far from DC, however. I've been wanting to go back and do the Smithsonian again sometime. We only hit the Air and Space Museum last time.
