18 Months

In another 26 minutes, she’ll have been born 18 months ago. That’s hard to believe. Only 18 months. It’s been a lifetime since then. 18 months ago our lives were about to change forever . . . for the better. And such huge changes in our little girl over those eighteen months. Her newborn self knew only how to do four things: eat, sleep, cry, and make dirty or wet diapers. Her 18 months self? She can do all that plus

  • Talk

  • Feed herself

  • Walk
  • Run
  • “Read”
  • Communicate verbally and non-verbally
  • Pretend
  • Initiate play
  • Make decisions
  • Develop preferences
  • Smile
  • Laugh
  • Hug and kiss
  • Throw a ball
  • Remember
  • Bathe in the big tub

And so much more.

She is one incredible, little girl.

. . . who has a cold (like the segue?). What a way to celebrate 1 ½ years of life. I hate when her colds get to this point: so phlegm-y that she throws up. She did it last night after I put her down for bed. I could hear the coughing as I was brushing my teeth. I knew what was coming.

Whenever one of these episodes hits, it lasts about ten minutes, but as DH said, it seems a lot longer. We feel so bad for her. There’s nothing we can do, though, but comfort her as best we can, cover her with a towel, and let it run its course. Fortunately, she bounces back quickly. A cup of milk and some bread or crackers always set her back to rights. She had us reading books to her within half an hour. Before many more minutes passed, she was up and playing. Thank goodness. DH and I are out of sorts until she’s feeling herself again. It’s harder on us than her. We wouldn’t have that any other way.
