DH and I invited my entire family to dinner yesterday: my mom, my aunt and her husband, two cousins, two uncles, and one of their significant others. My brother and two of my cousins couldn't come but maybe next time.
We haven't had everyone over since before we were married. It went well in spite of the heat and humidity. We've had fantastic weather all year - and Saturday was gorgeous - but it progressed from early June to mid-August in a matter of twelve hours. We'd planned to have everyone spend most of the time on the deck, but the humidity forced everyone into the air conditioning after the meal. Ah, well, it's the unexpected that keeps everything interesting.
The meal turned out well, if I do say so: burgers, hotdogs, sausages, grilled corn, macaroni and cheese (from scratch), baked beans, fruit salad, chips and dip, my uncle's mojitos, and my mom's dessert. Entirely too much food, just the way it should be. Even Sadie, our dachshund, joined in the feast by mooching food off anyone weak enough to give into those pleading eyes (like me).
We need to do this more often. My aunt holds most of the get-togethers now that my grandparents are gone. It's not fair to heap all of the responsibility on her. Before we consider inviting everyone over on a regular basis, we'll really need to get more furniture. Our table - a hand-me-down which came from DH's grandparents by way of his parents - doesn't hold enough people. We need to get real bar stools for the bar. And more seating in the living room would certainly help.
On TTC news, we're on CD3. I have no idea why - and I'm not complaining - but I'm not crushed about it. I may simply be happy that I didn't have the three days of spotting beforehand. Who knows? I'll take whatever peace I can find.

mmmm... the food and the family time sound great!
i hear you on the humidity... it has been soo hot here, and when we get even just a little bit of rain (which we desperately need) it's like walking into an overheated sauna.
