I'm baking Christmas cookies this weekend! There goes eating healthily for the next couple of weeks. I'm doing seven varieties this year: Peanut Blossoms, Salted Peanut Chews, Chocolate Chip, Gluten Free Chocolate Chip (for my brother), Jubilee Jumbles, Lemon Curd Cookies, and Peanut Butter Tandy Cakes. I've nixed my favorites, the German Cookies, since they're so time consuming. I'll do them another time. Maybe next year.
I'll never know how my grandmother did it. She made cookies every year for as far back as I can remember. Even when she was working, she managed to bake more than I do after work and on the weekends in the few weeks before Christmas. I'm doing over one weekend, but I'm taking off three days to keep from getting overwhelmed. Nanny didn't know the meaning of the word.
We'd be overwhelmed with cookies if we didn't give most of them away. We do a trade with several of our neighbors which is a lot of fun. I'm hoping my one neighbor does the rum balls this year. I'm not fond of rum, but those things are addictive. I have no head for alcohol; I'll probably be staggering after one ball.

Man, that's a lot of cookies. I'm just baking chocolate chip for stocking stuffers. Then again, I'm not known for my baking so the "real gift" is probably me not trying anything fancy.
My mother bakes a lot of cookies for Christmas too. She sends them off to family. She loves to bake. I do too but when I have time and energy. That cookie exchange sounds like fun....something to brighten up the season!
