We made it through Memorial Day without one firework going off the entire weekend. That made for one happy pup. Sadie is not a fan of fireworks - never has been. She runs into the house, tail between her legs, and hides under the bed the moment she hears the faintest snap of a firecracker in the distance.
Of late, thunderstorms and doors banging in the breeze also elicit this reaction. It's gotten bad enough that I'm actually considering getting her a vest to wear (https://anxietywrap.com/default.aspx) during thunderstorms and peak firework season. It looks ridiculous, but an article in the local paper reviewed this vest last year, and it really worked. It's supposed to be good for separation anxiety, too. I might want to think about one for MIL's dog (it might save our carpets from yet more accidents when she visits).
Our cat's not fazed. Sudden noises don't bother her nearly as much as they do Sadie. Muggles is one laid back cat. She'll spring into action should she hear a bird quietly sing or another cat tiptoe by the window or DH walk into the room (she loves goading him into chasing her), but loud noises - bah!
