I'm amazed everyday at the person Kathleen is becoming. It's the small things that strike me.
Kathleen has a "gumball" machine with clear, plastic balls about the size of billiard balls filled with objects. There's one in particular that she likes. It's filled with little balls that rattle when she shakes it.
The other night while she was playing before bed, she grabbed one of her balls and shook it. It made a little sound, but it wasn't the rattle ball. So she passed it to her other hand and shook it again: same result. She passed it back to the first hand again and shook it. Back and forth and back and forth she passed that ball. I could almost see the wheels turning in her head. It didn't rattle in one hand, maybe it would rattle in the other. She eventually solved the problem by picking up another ball - it happened to be the rattle ball - and banging two of them together. Plenty of noise there.
It staggers me that she's able to experiment at so young an age. She identifies a problem and then plays around until she finds a solution. It's incredible. This from a baby. The physical developments are incredible, but the mental and emotional developments are astounding.

I love that your getting to witness and make such amazing observations. An appreciation that perhaps only a true mom can have.
