I have no idea where we picked it up, but Kathleen, DH, and I all came down with the stomach bug this weekend. I'm guessing it was from daycare since another mother was hit with it yesterday. Kathleen, thankfully, suffered the least. She threw up three times: once Saturday night and twice on Monday. In between, she was nearly her normal, hyper self. I'm so very happy about that, but I really, really, really would have been happier if it hadn't wiped DH and me out, too.
Kathleen wasn't sleeping well on Sunday night. She woke around 11:00, so I lay with her in the living room for 15 minutes. While we were on the couch, I noticed a faint, unpleasant, queasy feeling in the pit of my stomach. I put it down to the stench of burnt macaroni and cheese still permeating the house from dinner hours earlier. I put Kathleen back her in crib and went to bed.
At 12:30, I was suddenly wide awake. I felt horrible. I wasn't sure if I was going to throw up. I lay there for a few minutes before deciding I'd better get into the bathroom. I just sat there on the floor waiting for something to happen. I finally got the dry heaves. That was followed by the so very pleasant diarrhea. I went back to bed. Several minutes later, I was back in the bathroom. Another episode of dry heaves followed by another episode of diarrhea.
At this point, DH was awake. I told him I wasn't feeling well. When I didn't come back to bed after awhile, he poked his head in the bathroom to find me lying on the floor and absolutely miserable. I didn't dare move or get up for fear I'd throw up again. DH offered to go out for some Pepto. That was the most heroic thing he could have done at that point because it turns out he was only a few hours behind me with this bug.
I threw up (finally) while he was out. I lay back on the floor wondering what was taking him so long. I was so cold, but I couldn't imagine making it to the bedroom to drag a blanket back into the bathroom with me. I wanted him to come back home to bring me a blanket. He did finally return. It seems he got sick at the 24-hour grocery store parking lot and it took him a few minutes to recover.
Kathleen appeared fine when morning rolled around. DH was going to drive her into daycare. He wasn't in any condition to drive anywhere, but neither of us was in a condition to watch her during the day. Of course, that's when she threw up. I dragged my nauseous self off the floor (I had managed to crawl to the living room and camp in front of the heating vent and fireplace by this point), gave her a bath, and prayed she'd be relatively calm for the rest of the day.
She was not. She was a hurricane of pure energy. And let me tell you, that was the longest day of my life. She ran through the house going through every, single toy within reach. I crawled (yes, crawled) along after her praying I wouldn't be sick. She only slowed for naps (three - two of them on the floor - which tells you she wasn't quite feeling herself despite Class 5 hurricane status) and for about 20 minutes right before the last time she threw up, this time on the carpet (much easier to wipe clean than she was earlier).
After this recitation, you must be wondering where DH was. Why was I the only one watching Kathleen although we were both sick? He was working - or trying to between numerous trips to the bathroom and whatever naps he could catch when he couldn't phsycially sit at his desk any longer. That's one drawback to working from home: you can always make it to work.
We've happily all recovered from our ordeal. Kathleen bounced back in three seconds. DH and I took longer, but I feel like me normal self today. And Lord willing and the creek don't rise (as my supervisor likes to say), that will be it for the next couple of years.

Oh, good grief. I had that on the 14th. I had only two rounds of throwing up, but that was because I was able to sleep half the day (in addition to all night), do almost no work, and barely move from the couch. I can't IMAGINE having had any actual responsibility. Had I had a toddler, I might have sedated her.
